Pastor's David's Dispatches

Liberation Is Happening Now

Tunisia and Egypt have undergone massive civil change seemingly in a manner of weeks but moments like these are decades in the making. As I write this article, the oppressive regime of Libya is reacting with fear and violence towards its citzens demonstrating for freedom. May our prayer be with all persons of every country seeking justice and universal civil rights.

Liberation is a part of God's story. Soon we will find ourselves entering into the Lenten season. Our theme is based on the Hebrews' journey from Egypt to Cana, from enslavement to freedom. It is a journey fraught with danger, struggles and glimpses of hope in which God guides the people and provides to them a prophet, Moses. We will link the Exodus to the journey of Jesus as he begins his pilgrimage to the cross on our behalf. A guest preacher, Rabbi Binah Wing from Temple Beth-El will join us on March 27 to help us hear and experience the Exodus from the Jewish perspective. Our devotional guide and Sunday school groups and midweek groups will provide avenues for learning and maintaining Lenten disciplines. Check the weekly bulletin and email announcements for more info. Again, I invite you to pray for peace in our world, the cause of freedom in countries near and far, civilians caught in turmoil, and new and continuing governments that they may err on the side of justice for all people. See you in church, Pastor David
