Youth

Good Samaritan Award Given by United Methodist Men, Sunday, May 9

The purpose of the award is to provide United Methodist churches a means to recognize an individual youth who demonstrates the attributes of the Good Samaritan described in Luke 10:25-37. This award recognizes ministry to others through outreach, humanitarian assistance, and/or advocacy. On Sunday, May 9, the GUMC chapter of UMM recognized two youths for this very special award: Adam Simons and Hannah Eddy.

Adams Simons has been a lifelong member of the church serving as an acolyte, participating in worship and dramas, Vacation Bible School, as well as mission projects such as gleaning apples, bell ringing for the Salvation Army and summer work camps. Adam now teaches Sunday School and is a role model for our younger students. He currently attends Rock Valley College and is working at Target.

Hannah Eddy is a fifth generation member of Grace UMC. She has been recognized for many academic achievements while a student at Harlem High School including being named an Illinois Scholar. Hannah has participated in several mission camps, including recovery/rebuilding efforts after flooding in Iowa, whereby she has grown in her ability to serve others. Hannah's strong faith and commitment to God has lead to several ways to witness for Christ. Through her school newspaper and working with other students she has shared her faith. Hannah has been accepted into the Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts at Bradley University in Peoria, IL. At the tender age of 18 she is focused on God's plan for her, not what others think she should be.
